THE EDITOR, Madam:
I wish to remind the Prime Minister Andrew Holness of the words of President Ahmed Sekou Toure of Guinea (West Africa), when he told President de Gaulle of France, “Now there is no dignity without freedom … we prefer freedom in poverty to riches in slavery”.
De Gaulle had gone to Guinea to convince the Africans to remain a colony of France. The people voted overwhelmingly for freedom.
When I think of the great warriors such as Tacky, General Ruler, Samuel Sharpe and Paul Bogle, among others, the principle that comes to mind is: “it’s better to die on your feet than to live on your knees”.
The DNA of these great fighters run through our veins.
“Egizabher Yasywo” – “may God open your eyes to the truth”.
